Class information
A Creative Journal Workshop, Cappuccino Style
Date: November 8th
Time: 1-4pm
Max. Class Size 10
Min. Class Size 3
Creator: Janis Markopoulos, Boujee Bits Designs
Theme: Intro to Fabric Covered Journals – Cappuccino Style
Cost $49 per person (Includes all Supplies and Hands On, Personalized Instruction)
Class Summary: In this 3 hour make and take workshop; all supplies and instruction are provided for you to create your very own 3 signature journal that you can begin using immediately. You will receive an introduction to creative journaling (also known as “junk journaling”) with food product boxes, and tips for continuing your journaling practice at home, complete with YouTube and other online resources.
Detail: This month’s creative journal project introduces fabric as a covering for food boxes and binding templates for multiple signatures. We will turn a small rice box into a 6.25” x 4” treasure book with three 10-page signatures and coffee themed fabric. (Various fabric choices will be available in case coffee isn’t your jam). Once participants learn this technique, they will never look at their recycle bin the same. You’ll image every food box in your pantry as a journal because the options are limitless once you are comfortable with binding pages into fabric covered boxes. Most participants complete their journal so that it’s ready to use or gift to someone else. Pockets, tags and light embellishments will be provided.
Note: For best results, fabric glue is used. We will use fans to circulate the air. Please bring a mask to wear if the smell of acetone-based glue bothers you. Art glitter brand glue can also be used if you are super sensitive to acetone-based glues.
About the Instructor:
This workshop will be guided by Janis Markopoulos. Janis has been paper crafting and scrapbooking since 1997 and discovered art journaling through a workshop she attended at Heal Tree in Lewes, DE in 2023. Afterwards, her art journaling evolved into creative journal making using a variety of recyclable products, fabrics, papers, and mixed media mediums such as watercolors, acrylic paints, texture pastes, embossing powders, foiling and even pressed flowers. Janis loves to use organic materials to dye papers to create beautiful colors that have a vintage feel. Even the littlest bits of materials used can be saved and turned into creative elements, hence the name BOUJEE BITS. Janis makes and sells journals at local area craft fairs during the spring and fall. She has found that this creative outlet has helped her tremendously on her own healing journey from long term, complex grief. She feels writing and creating can be healing and her hope is that these beautiful journals will be used by healing humans everywhere. By listening to and answering the call of the universe, she now offers workshops to share the joy of making creative journals with others. You can follow Janis’ events and craft fairs at https://www.facebook.com/createjournalswithjanis/.
