About this Event
Smartphone Storytelling Lab is an in-person event for people interested in smartphone storytelling.
A better photograph does not begin with a more expensive camera.
It begins with noticing light, choosing what belongs in the frame, and deciding what the image is supposed to communicate.
Pocket Frame Creative: Smartphone Storytelling Lab is a three-hour, hands-on workshop for people who want to create stronger everyday photographs using a smartphone.
Participants rotate through three practical shooting environments:
PEOPLE - portrait and everyday human moments
PLACE - lifestyle and travel-style storytelling
OBJECT - food, product, and small-business imagery
The workshop combines short instruction with repeated practice.
There are no DSLR requirements, professional lenses, studio-lighting prerequisites, or photography experience requirements.
Bring a charged smartphone and be ready to shoot.
Learning Outcomes
During the workshop, participants practice how to:
- identify useful natural light;
- simplify a cluttered frame;
- use foreground, background, and negative space;
- work with leading lines and visual balance;
- photograph people without overly stiff posing;
- create lifestyle images from ordinary spaces;
- photograph a small object or product;
- choose a stronger image from several similar frames;
- make simple exposure, crop, contrast, and color adjustments;
- explain the story or purpose behind a photograph.
The session focuses on practical improvement rather than promising professional-level results.
