About this Event
Sip N Learn: Nature Within – Is Modern Life Making Us Unwell?
Modern life has changed how we live, work, rest, and relate to the natural world around us. But what happens when humans become disconnected from nature?
In this Mind Circles Talk, neurologist and neuroscientist Dr James Bashford explores how the environments we inhabit shape the brain, nervous system, and mental health. Drawing from neuroscience, clinical medicine, public health research, and his new book Nature Within, James examines the growing evidence linking modern lifestyles with stress, burnout, attention difficulties, chronic illness, and emotional disconnection.
This talk invites us to reconsider the idea that humans exist separately from nature. Instead, it explores how deeply interconnected we are with the living systems around us — and what this means for human health and modern life today.
About the SpeakerDr James Bashford completed his medical degree at the University of Cambridge in 2010 before beginning specialist neurology training at King’s College Hospital London. He obtained a PhD in clinical neuroscience in 2019 and now works as a clinical academic and honorary consultant neurologist in South London, leading a research programme while caring for patients with motor neuron disease.
Alongside his clinical and academic work, James writes and speaks about the relationship between human health and the natural world. He is also a father, amateur moth-er, and makeshift marathoner.
His first book, , was published in January 2026.
