🐝BATHURST BEEKEEPERS CLUB MEETING 🐝Spring is here, which means swarm season is just around the corner! This month’s meeting will focus on swarm prevention and management. We’ll cover some of the practical things beekeepers can do to reduce the likelihood of swarming, as well as what to do when a colony is preparing to swarm or has already swarmed.
We’ll cover:
🐝 How to recognise the signs a hive may be preparing to swarm
🐝 Practical ways to help prevent swarming
🐝 Splitting hives and creating nucs
🐝 Setting up and using swarm boxes
🐝 Managing captured swarms
🐝 How the ABA swarm system works and how swarms are registered
Whether you’re new to beekeeping or have been keeping bees for years, it should be a useful and practical session as we head into the busiest part of the season.
