About this Event
Join Perry World House for a special event with Senator Bill Cassidy that explores the nexus of environmental policy, national security, energy, the economy, and the challenge of building bipartisan consensus on these critical issues.
At a time of deep political polarization, durable policymaking can seem out of reach. Yet the costs of energy and the growing economic and national security challenge posed by China underscore the need for policies that can withstand changes in political leadership.
Is the U.S. political system capable of solving big problems? The conversation will explore whether the United States can find enduring bipartisan solutions to advance economic, energy, environmental, and national security interests.
Against this backdrop, Senator Cassidy has sought to build bipartisan consensus around polices that advance America’s environmental, economic, energy, and security interests. He has introduced and championed the Foreign Pollution Fee Act, a bipartisan bill that would impose import charge fees on carbon-intensive imports such as steel, aluminum, cement, and fertilizer based on differences in environmental standards. The approach is designed to strengthen American manufacturers while addressing the competitive and national security challenges posed by countries with weaker environmental standards, including China.
Join us for this timely conversation on how U.S. federal policymakers might build bipartisan consensus to address the major challenges of our time.
