Welcome to Friends of Big Wood KIDS: 'Seeds & Journeys' a creative nature workshop for children aged 7-12 years who enjoy being outdoors, getting curious and discovering things for themselves.
Outdoor drop off session in Big Wood Local Nature Reserve, entrance at top of Temple Fortune Hill (nearest postcode NW11 7XR - note the drop pin on map is approximate).
Join naturalist & author Michael Holland & a local nature storyteller for a morning of outdoor exploration, creativity, games and storytelling as we explore the many ways that plants, animals & people journey through the natural world.
How do seeds, birds, animals and people find their way through the world? How does a seed travel? How does a bird find its way across continents? And what clues can we find in Big Wood to discover who has been travelling through the woodland?
We'll investigate ingenious ways that seeds hitch a ride, fly, float, spin and scatter. You'll get to handle and match real seeds, experiment with your own spinning seed helicopters, make a journey stick to record your woodland adventure, and hear stories inspired by migration, journeys and discovery.
Along the way we'll become woodland detectives, looking for signs of animal journeys (including our own!), exploring the changing early-autumn woodland and discovering some of the remarkable travellers that pass through Big Wood and beyond.
We kindly ask for a minimum £12 donation per child to go towards our session leader costs and materials.
We need your financial contributions to keep our professional leaders in bread and butter. Your gratefully received support will help keep these sessions sustainable.
