Roger Street Friedman is a modern Americana singer-songwriter whose emotionally powerful live performances and deeply human songwriting have earned him a growing reputation as one of the genre’s most compelling independent voices. Blending folk, rock, blues, and country influences in the Laural Canyon tradition of Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, andNeil Young, Friedman creates music that is thoughtful, engaging, and deeply relatable.
Over the course of five critically acclaimed albums, Friedman has built a loyal following with songs that explore love, resilience, social conscience, and the shared human experience. His latest release, Long Shadows, reached the Top 50 on the Americana Music Association charts and his song Love Hope Trust climbed to #1 on the Roots Music Report’s Roots Rock Chart. His work has been featured in American Songwriter, No Depression, and Americana Highways, while socially conscious songs like “The Sun Never Sets,” featuring collaborations with Tom Chapin, Peter Yarrow, Joel Rafael, and Guy Davis, and “Ghosts of Sugarland” have connected with wide audiences online and beyond.
Friedman has collaborated with Grammy-winning producer Larry Campbell and toured in support of Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams and David Bromberg, and opened for Los Lobos and The Blind Boys of Alabama. Comfortable in formats ranging from intimate solo performances to a full 10-piece band with horn section, he has performed in concert halls, theaters, listening rooms, coffee houses, and house concerts across the country. Touring throughout the Northeast, Midwest, South, and California, Friedman has developed a reputation for shows that emphasize connection, storytelling, spontaneity, and audience engagement.
Whether solo or backed by his live band of seasoned professionals in trio, 4-piece, 6-piece or 10-piece configurations, Friedman’s performances are warm, uplifting, and emotionally resonant, sometimes leaving the crowd in tears or in stiches, and often inviting his audiences to sing along. After stepping away from music in his mid-twenties, Friedman returned decades later to release his debut album at age 52, launching a remarkable second act fueled by lived experience, perspective, and purpose.
