About this Event
Roaming the Internal Terrain: an ekphrastic writing workshop
Look a little longer.
Notice where the image takes you, and follow what rises.
Overview
What happens when we encounter an artwork without first trying to understand it?
Inspired by Faye Wai’s solo exhibition Still, Something Glows, Roaming the Internal Terrain is a 2-hour guided ekphrastic writing workshop facilitated by Lindi Nolte, Vancouver spoken word artist and creative writing educator.
The workshop takes its name from one of the exhibition’s central ideas: that each of us carries an interior landscape shaped by the experiences, places, emotions, and fragments that gather inside us. Rather than looking for a “correct” reading of the artwork, you’re invited to roam. Let your attention wander, make connections, and find where the work meets something in your own experience.
🕰️ Flow of the Workshop
- Arrival & Grounding: Settling in, with a brief introduction to ekphrastic writing and the exhibition
- Slow Looking: Time with selected paintings, noticing colour, gesture, atmosphere, and imagery
- Guided Writing: Prompts that follow what a painting awakens, whether a memory, sensation, image, question, or unexpected association
- Drafting & Sharing Circle: Time to develop a piece and, if you choose, share it in a supportive circle
