What happens when we encounter an artwork without first trying to understand it?
Inspired by the art exhibition Still, Something Glows, Roaming the Internal Terrain is a guided ekphrastic writing workshop facilitated by Lindi Nolte.
Participants will spend time with selected paintings from the exhibition, using colour, gesture, atmosphere, imagery, and intuition as starting points for new writing. Through guided prompts and close observation, the workshop invites you to notice what a painting awakens—whether a memory, sensation, image, question, feeling, or unexpected association—and follow it onto the page.
The workshop takes its name from one of the exhibition’s central ideas: that each of us carries an interior landscape shaped by the experiences, places, emotions, and fragments that accumulate within us.
Rather than searching for a “correct” interpretation of the artwork, participants are invited to roam and let attention wander, make connections, and discover where the work meets something in their own experience.
Participants will have the opportunity to develop a piece inspired by the exhibition, with the option to share their writing as part of the closing celebration and poetry reading on November 15.
No previous poetry, creative writing, or visual art experience is required. Come curious, spend time with the paintings, leave with new writing, and perhaps a different way of looking.
Roaming the Internal Terrain is presented in response to Faye Wai’s solo exhibition Still, Something Glows, on view at Enabling Arts from November 2–15, 2026.
Tickets are offered on a sliding scale from $10–25. All ticket levels offer the same workshop experience; please choose the rate that best reflects your circumstances.
