Remembering the Children invites community to the annual Remembering the Children Memorial Walk on October 12, 2026. The event commences at 9:00am. in the Flower Gardens at Sioux Park and concludes at the Remembering the Children Memorial site, which will remain open to the public until 4:00pm for exploration and updates on upcoming initiatives. Started by volunteers of the Rapid City Indian Boarding School Lands project, this annual walk honors the memory of the children who lost their lives at the Rapid City Indian Boarding School. By gathering each year to speak their names aloud, we strive to protect, honor, and remember them while fostering a healthier, more connected community. This event also serves to commemorate this important chapter of local history and acknowledge the contributions of Native American people to the Rapid City community.
