Release & Restoration: Healing through Kintsugi-Inspired Art
Look up when you walk into The Café at Thistle Farms, and you’ll see a ceiling of teacups—each one carrying a story of healing, resilience, and renewal.
Teacups may seem fragile, much like the way society can sometimes see women who have survived trauma. But these cups tell a different story: that what has been broken can be mended, and that repair can reveal a deeper kind of strength.
One of the cups belonged to a 95-year-old survivor of a Japanese internment camp during World War II. It was donated in honor of a grandmother who fled abuse—and its story inspired this class.
Join Jade Ryan for an evening exploring Kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending broken ceramics with gold. You’ll make a Kintsugi-inspired repair of a piece of your own, share a table with neighbors, and leave with something restored.
Bring a piece—or come empty-handed.
Bring a chipped or cracked plate, vase, cup, or bowl to repair. Time is limited, so most participants will complete one or two pieces, but feel free to bring extras to share. We’ll also have pieces on hand, so there’s no need to bring anything if you’d rather simply come as you are.
When: Friday, November 13, 5:30–7:30 PM
Where: Community Room, The Café at Thistle Farms
5122 Charlotte Ave, Nashville, TN 37209
Registration: $40, including materials, light bites, and refreshments.
A note on the technique: Traditional Kintsugi uses lacquer and takes weeks to cure. In one evening, we’ll use a modified, Kintsugi-inspired method with ceramic glue so you can take your piece home that evening. Repaired pieces are decorative and not food-safe.
Want to give a little more? You can add a donation at checkout to support Thistle Farms and its work helping women survivors heal from trafficking and exploitation.
Cancellation and refund policy: A full refund is available up to 7 days before the workshop (through November 6). After that, registration fees are non-refundable because we finalize our headcount for catering and materials. If you can't attend, you're welcome to give your spot to a friend. Donations are not refundable.
