About this Event
Saturday, Oct. 10, 3pm, Leica Gallery Chicago
Poetry and photography are kindred arts. Both are fluent in the language of images and silence. Both come alive while mourning our dead. For nearly three decades, poet and photographer Rebecca Norris Webb has wedded these two arts in her work in hopes of creating “a more spacious form,” to quote the Polish poet Milosz. She will present a selection of photo/poetry pairings, followed by a Q&A and book signing.
Originally a poet, Rebecca Norris Webb often interweaves her text and photographs in her ten books, most notably in her Radius Books monograph, My Dakota—an elegy for her brother who died unexpectedly—for which a solo exhibition of the work appeared at The Cleveland Museum of Art in summer 2015, among other venues. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Paris Review, and Le Monde, and is in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Cleveland Museum of Art, and Brooklyn Museum. She’s a 2019 NEA grant recipient, and her most recent book, A Difficulty Is a Light (Chose Commune, 2025), is part of the exhibition, Photopoetry, at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, which will travel to Paris and Cleveland later this fall. Her upcoming book, Glimmerings, a selection of some thirty years of her color photographs, will be released in fall 2027 by Radius Books.
This presentation is part of Gallery proramming for the exhibition SLANT RHYMES: ALex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb.
