Radical Nonfiction Book Group with Carlo
Discusses How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us by Jason Stanley
Led by former Greenlight bookseller Carlo, our Radical Nonfiction Book Group meets monthly to read and discuss nonfiction titles related to the issues of history, politics, and the promise of a better world, just around the corner!
For October, the group discusses How Fascism Works, the New York Times bestseller by Jason Stanley. A scholar of philosophy and propaganda and the child of refugees of WWII Europe, Stanley identifies ten pillars of fascist politics and charts their horrifying rise and deep history. By uncovering disturbing patterns that are as prevalent today as ever, How Fascism Works reveals that the stuff of politics—rhetoric and myth—can become policy and reality all too quickly. And only by recognizing these patterns, he argues, can we begin to resist their most harmful effects and return to democratic ideals.
