Adding people to a landscape instantly changes the emotional tone of a painting—inviting the viewer in, creating a sense of scale, and telling a story without a single word. In this focused practice‑based workshop, you’ll learn how to place small, expressive figures into your watercolor scenes with confidence and clarity. Kris will demonstrate how to paint simple figures that feel natural within a landscape, showing how posture, proportion, and placement can make a painting feel joyful, contemplative, lonely, or energetic. You’ll work from provided samples and practice techniques for gesture, scale, and integration so your “little people” enhance the mood of your work rather than distract from it.
This is a hands-on, skill‑building class designed to help you loosen up, experiment, and grow. Whether you’re new to watercolor or developing your landscape practice, you’ll leave with practical tools to bring more life, story, and emotion into your paintings. Supplies are not included. A PDF supply list is available in the workshop description.
NOTE: For all administrative questions—such as registration issues, cancellations, or workshop attendance—please contact Arlene’s directly. Instructors are not responsible for handling these matters. You can reach us at [email protected] or call during store hours at (518) 482-8881.
Our courses are typically held in the lower level of Arlene's. Because access to the lower level is available only by stair, please let us know if using the stairs presents any difficulty for you in advance of the class so we can make alternate arrangements. We want to make sure everyone is able to enjoy and participate in our classes.
