New Bern Parks & Recreation will host a public input meeting on Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Martin Marietta Park Lake Shelter, located at 700 S. Glenburnie Road, to gather community input on the continued development of Martin Marietta Park. The Lake Shelter is located near the entrance to the park. Bear left at the fork in the roadway and the shelter is one-third of a mile down on your left.
The meeting will focus on potential amenities and improvements for the next phase of development, including expanded trail connectivity, a swim beach, and additional opportunities for kayaking, paddle sports, and fishing.
The meeting will be structured as a floating public input session, allowing residents and community members to attend at any time between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Participants will have an opportunity to learn more about the proposed improvements, ask questions, and share their thoughts and ideas with Parks & Recreation staff.
“Community input is an important part of planning for the future of Martin Marietta Park,” said Kari Warren, Director of Parks and Recreation. “We want to hear from the people who use our parks and understand what amenities and opportunities they would like to see at Martin Marietta Park as we continue to develop this tremendous community resource.”
Martin Marietta Park is located on approximately 800 acres of land and water and currently provides opportunities for outdoor recreation, including trails, fishing, boating, and nature observation. Continued development is intended to expand recreational opportunities, improve connectivity throughout the park, and provide additional ways for residents and visitors to enjoy the area's natural resources.
Public feedback gathered at the meeting will help inform future planning and development decisions and assist the City in pursuing potential grant funding for park improvements.
