Discover the ancient practice of pranayama and the transformative power of the breath.Pranayama is the traditional yogic practice of working with the breath. Rooted in the ancient yoga traditions of India and closely connected with Ayurveda, pranayama encompasses a rich variety of breathing techniques that have been practised for thousands of years.
The breath is something we carry with us every moment of our lives, yet most of us rarely stop to consider how powerful a tool it can be.
In traditional Indian yoga, pranayama is much more than simply taking a deep breath. Through specific breathing techniques, we can develop greater awareness of the connection between the breath, body and mind, while working with the body's subtle energy system, including the nadis – the channels through which prana, or vital energy, is understood to flow.
In this two-hour workshop, we'll explore a selection of traditional pranayama practices and discover how working consciously with the breath can become a valuable tool for calming the mind, managing stress, encouraging relaxation and creating a greater sense of balance and wellbeing.
You don't need any previous experience of pranayama. We'll take our time to learn and practise each technique, combining the breathwork with a gentle yoga practice before finishing with a deeply nurturing guided relaxation.
You'll have the opportunity to slow down, turn your attention inward and experience the breath in a whole new way.
Come and discover the art of the Indian breath – and perhaps leave with some simple practices that you can take into your everyday life.
After our workshop, you are very welcome to join me for chai, cake and a chat.
