Come and learn to carve a cooking spoon and butter knife with Rosie Mockford, and leave with the skills to continue practising this satisfying craft. You will use a knife and hook knife and locally sourced green wood from pre-prepared blanks. Rosie will also demonstrate a simple method for axing out a blank. Things you'll learn include:
- Wood selection and understanding grain direction
- Going from log to billet using axe and mallet (group work & demonstration)
- Design considerations
- Safe and efficient knife grips
- Carving a butter knife using a straight knife.
- Carving a cooking spoon using straight and hooked tools
- Finishing oils
- Tool buying advice - straight knives available to purchase on the day
- Brief (optional session) after the end of the day to demystify sharpening so you’re confident to keep your tools sharp if you decide to continue. This does not replace a sharpening course but should help you feel confident giving it a go & knowing how to start.
Best of all, not only will gain all this knowledge which will enable you to continue these skills at home, you’ll also come away a butter knife and spoon of your very own.
