Rooted Routes presents Point Blank Period! An exploration of diasporic femininity, beauty & belonging, with a bloody good cause. 🩸
On November 15, we’re coming together for an afternoon of culture, conversation and collective action.
At the heart of it all? Raising funds to provide menstrual hygiene kits for 220 girls attending Maliki primary and secondary school in Konza, Kenya, in collaboration with local organisation Drawing Dreams.
Because access to menstrual products, and the freedom to attend school comfortably while menstruating, shouldn’t be a privilege. Period.

It’s never just hair. Join us for a special screening of The Right To Ambivalence, followed by a conversation with filmmaker and visual anthropologist Olema Kweli on beauty, identity and Black womanhood.

🦢 SOUNDS FROM HOME & BEYOND
DJ and radio host Jamal Khadar has a knack for musical discovery, even dedicating an entire radio show to African country music.
This time, he’s digging into Kenyan gems and East African sounds, with a few surprises for even the Kenyans in the room.
A little musical anthropology, if you will. Come with open ears!

On the menu: crispy bhajias, fresh kachumbari and our own spin on dawa, Kenya’s beloved cocktail. Maybe even some homemade mandazi and chapati!
