About this Event
Join The Stop Community Food Centre and Canadian cookbook author Puneeta Chhitwal-Varma to learn tips and techniques to pickle using salt, vinegar, oil, spices and here’s a big surprise: honey! Generations of grandmas have been pickling to add flavour and to reduce food waste in their kitchens. Puneeta teaches the techniques from her book, Good Food, Healthy Planet and also what she has learned about fermentation and preservation along the way.
Get together with us to peel turnips, chop chillies, and make a jar or two (or three?!) to take home with you. From quick-pickling carrots and onions and the deep fermentation that can come with oil and spices, to the latest trend in condiments, hot honey, what you make will add a sour, funky brightness to every meal.
Included in the event:
• Pickle tastings
• Three jars of ferments to take home (salt and vinegar pickles, oil and spice fermented vegetables, and hot honey)
• Recipe cards, so you can try pickling at home
• Every participant will be entered to win a copy of Puneeta’s cookbook, Good Food, Healthy Planet
