Join Afrodesiac Collective for a colorful, hands-on evening inspired by Día de los Muertos — Mexico’s vibrant celebration of remembrance, love, and connection.
We’ll gather for an evening of creativity, conversation, and Mexican traditions as we learn about the beautiful art of papel picado, enjoy warm Mexican hot chocolate and Pan de Muerto, and prepare to welcome one of Mexico’s most meaningful cultural seasons.
You’ll learn how to cut and create your very own papel picado — the delicate, colorful tissue-paper banners traditionally used to decorate homes, streets, altars, and celebrations throughout Mexico. This is your chance to decorate your Halloween home!
This is a beginner-friendly experience designed for anyone who wants to try something new, make something beautiful, and learn more about Mexican culture along the way.
Come with your curiosity, leave with something you made with your own hands, and take a little piece of Mexican culture home with you.
Come solo, bring a friend, or make it a creative date night.
No crafting experience. No prior knowledge. Just curiosity.
All The Details:
- Skill Level: Beginner-friendly
- Class Size: 4-12 participants
- Duration: Approx. 2 hours
- What You’ll Make: Your own papel picado artwork to take home
- Materials: Colorful tissue paper, scissors, templates/inspiration, and crafting supplies will be provided
- Food & Drink: Mexican hot chocolate and Pan de Muerto will be served
- What to Wear: Come comfortable and ready to get creative
- Just bring yourself and your curiosity.

Meet Your Host: Winnie Sandhu
Founder of Afrodesiac Collective, Winnie curates joyful, hands-on experiences inspired by the world’s rich cultures.
Her workshops are designed to make cultural discovery approachable, creative, and fun — giving people an opportunity to experience pieces of another culture through art, food, conversation, and storytelling.
For this Papel Picado Craft Night, Winnie will guide guests through a hands-on introduction to this beautiful Mexican folk art while sharing stories and context around Día de los Muertos, its traditions, symbolism, and cultural significance.
