Join us at Prince of Wales Park on Saturday 17 October, from 10am to 2pm, as we celebrate the completion of improvement works at Papawai Stream in Mount Cook.Papawai Stream is one of Wellington’s few remaining natural urban streams. It carries stormwater through the area and is home to aquatic life, but heavier and more frequent rainfall has contributed to erosion along the stream bed, washing sediment into the stormwater network and increasing the risk of blockages and flooding.
We’ve strengthened the stream banks to help reduce erosion, manage sediment and improve the resilience of the stormwater network, while supporting the stream’s natural environment.
Now, we have around 800 plants ready to go in the ground. The planting will help support a healthier stream environment, providing habitat for native wildlife and helping protect this special part of Wellington.
Come along, see the improvements and get involved in the planting as we mark the completion of the project. We’ll provide spades, but feel free to bring your own. Sturdy boots are recommended.
We’d love to see you there!
