About this Event
To celebrate the 2026 Week of the Italian Language in the World, the Embassy of Italy in Canada and Carleton University are pleased to host Paolo Granata – Italian Author and University of Toronto Professor – for a presentation of his new book Generative Knowledge: Think, Learn, Create with AI (2026).
Moving beyond the idea of AI as a mere technological tool, Generative Knowledge offers a conceptual framework for understanding artificial intelligence as a co-creative partner in research and education. Drawing on over two decades of teaching, research, and public engagement, the author examines how communication technologies can contribute to positive societal change.
Paolo Granata is a Professor of Book and Media Studies at St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto, with an affiliation in the Department of Italian Studies. His research explores the future of education and the role universities can play in fostering sustainable development and promoting participation in cultural life. He is the founder of the Media Ethics Lab at the University of Toronto and has served on the Canadian Commission for UNESCO since 2018, focusing on digital sustainability and the contribution of culture to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. A widely translated author, he has published several books and more than 50 scholarly publications.
The event will take place in Room 360 of the Tory Building, Carleton University, on November 18, 2026.
