About this Event
Oxford Archers Beginners Course - November 2026
Our friendly, four-session group beginners course is the ideal place to start your archery journey!
Oxford Archers runs group beginners courses throughout the year for people with little or no previous archery experience. Our experienced coaches will guide you through the fundamentals of archery, helping you develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to shoot safely and work towards obtaining your Beginners’ Course certificate- an important step towards joining an archery club.
Whether you’re looking for a new hobby, a fun challenge, a way to keep active or the first step towards competitive archery, we’d love to welcome you.
Course dates and times
All four sessions during our November course will run from 18:00–20:00 on the following evenings:
- Monday 2 November
- Tuesday 3 November
- Monday 9 November
- Tuesday 10 November
Important: You must attend all four sessions to receive your Beginners Course certificate. Unfortunately, we cannot offer alternative dates for missed sessions, so please check your availability before booking.
What will you learn?
Across the four sessions, our coaches will introduce you to the fundamentals of archery, helping you build confidence and develop the skills to shoot safely.
You'll cover:
- Archery basics
- Shooting technique
- Range safety and etiquette
- Putting it into practice
By the end of the course, you’ll have the foundations you need to enjoy archery and take part in the sport regularly, along with a shiny certificate to celebrate your achievement! Your certificate demonstrates that you have received the essential training to shoot safely on a range, understand the relevant club rules and code of conduct, and help keep yourself and others safe.
Social
After each Monday session, you’re warmly invited to join club members at the Hollybush for 2-for-1 pizza. It’s a great opportunity to meet fellow archers, ask questions and get a feel for the friendly, social side of club life.
Where do we meet?
The sessions take place at our dedicated archery field at the Rugby Club in North Hinksey, Oxford. The What3Words location is: ///clash.sticky.bunny.
We shoot primarily outdoors in our floodlit space, so please dress appropriately for the weather. Outdoor heaters will be available for added comfort, but warm layers are recommended for November evenings.
What should I wear?
To keep everyone comfortable and safe on the range, please wear:
- Enclosed-toe shoes.
- A top with long sleeves.
- Clothing without zips or protruding fastenings around the chest, arms or upper body that could catch the bowstring.
- Long hair tied back securely.
You don’t need to bring any archery equipment — we’ll provide what you need for the sessions.
Course fees and booking
The fee for the course is £60 per adult and £40 per junior (under 18). A small administrative fee may be added to your online booking.
Please note that the course fee covers the beginners’ course only. If you decide to join Oxford Archers afterwards, club membership will be subject to a separate fee. Further information about membership will be available from the club.

A sport for everyone
