Owen Hopkins brit építészettörténész, író és kurátor, a Newcastle-i Egyetemhez tartozó Farrell Centre igazgatója. Korábban a londoni Royal Academy of Arts építészeti programjának kurátoraként, majd a Sir John Soane’s Museum kiállítási és oktatási főkurátoraként dolgozott. Számos könyv szerzője, köztük a Reading Architecture: A Visual Lexicon (2012), a Less is a Bore: Postmodern Architecture (2020), a The Brutalists: Brutalism’s Best Architects (2023) és a The Manifesto House (2025) című köteteké. Munkásságának középpontjában az építészeti stílusok, a brutalizmus, a posztmodern, valamint az építészet és a társadalom kapcsolatának vizsgálata áll.
Owen Hopkins brit építészettörténész legfrissebb könyve a 2026-ban megjelent Brutalist London. A publikáció egyfajta kalauzként, de alapos szakmaisággal mutat be 58 brutalista házat a brit fővárosból, Nigel Green kiváló fotóival. Nekünk magyaroknak ez a kötet különösen érdekes, hiszen a könyvben szereplő épületek közül több Goldfinger Ernő munkája, akinek segítségével több fiatal magyar építész láthatta ezeket az 1960-as években, sőt: néhányuknak még a tervezésében is részt vettek.
A kiváló brit építészettörténész 2026. november 11-én tart előadást a Walter Rózsi-villában. Az előadáson a részvétel ingyenes, de a korlátozott létszám miatt regisztrációköteles.

Owen Hopkins on British Brutalism
Great Britain is one of the birthplaces of Brutalist architecture: the National Theatre in London, the Barbican and the Balfron Tower, have served as a source of inspiration for architects worldwide. Owen Hopkins’s lecture at the Walter Villa on 11 November 2026 will explore this legacy.
Owen Hopkins is a British architectural historian, writer and curator, and director of the Farrell Centre at Newcastle University. He previously worked as curator of the architecture programme at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, and subsequently as chief curator of exhibitions and education at Sir John Soane’s Museum. He is the author of numerous books, including Reading Architecture: A Visual Lexicon (2012), Less is a Bore: Postmodern Architecture (2020), The Brutalists: Brutalism’s Best Architects (2023) and The Manifesto House (2025). His work focuses on architectural styles, Brutalism and Postmodernism, as well as the relationship between architecture and society.
British architectural historian Owen Hopkins’s latest book is Brutalist London, published in 2026. The publication serves as a guide, yet with thorough expertise, presenting 58 Brutalist buildings in the British capital, accompanied by Nigel Green’s outstanding photographs. For us Hungarians, this volume is of particular interest, as several of the buildings featured in the book are the work of Ernő Goldfinger, thanks to whom many young Hungarian architects were able to see these structures in the 1960s; indeed, some of them even took part in their design.
The distinguished British architectural historian will give a lecture at the Walter Rózsi Villa on 11 November 2026. Attendance at the lecture is free, but registration is required due to limited capacity. You can register via the link below:
