Actualize is honored to have ONCE REMOVED as the Fall Curatorial Resident in the Actualize Yesler Gallery, now through December 21, 2026!
Their second of three exhibitions, Light Seeking, is a solo exhibition by local artist, Gaeun Kim.
Gaeun Kim is an artist whose work explores how resilience emerges amid uncertainty and loss. Their sculptural compositions use materials from the urban built environment and objects that evoke childhood memories to portray moments where grief and hope coexist.
This installation draws on the metaphor of endurance through a narrow gate as a pathway to salvation from Matthew 7:13-14. Gaeun asks what comes after persistent, hopeful actions despite their absurdity, and whether the self-destruction implied in the process is a justifiable cost of faith. Through the futile attempts of ceramic paper planes, Gaeun makes sense of the precarity of the space between uncertainty and promises.
Join us on Thursday, November 5 from 5-9pm for the opening reception of ‘Light Seeking’ during Pioneer Square Art Walk! Located in our Yesler Gallery at 317 Yesler Way.

ONCE REMOVED is an ongoing curatorial project by Sam Skidmore and Zoë Hensley that brings artists into temporary, nontraditional spaces. Historically, their exhibitions have taken place in Seattle houses slated for demolition, where artists respond directly to the site through installation, sound, and performance. For the Actualize curatorial residency, they continue this exploration of place and impermanence, and the ways art can temporarily transform a space before it disappears.
ONCE REMOVED's regular gallery hours are on Sunday and Monday from 10am to 2pm.
