October Bookclub: John of John
Hey book lovers! Join us in person this October for a cozy meetup focused on John of John.
Cal MacLeod is 22, fresh out of art school in Edinburgh, and back on the Isle of Harris because his father says his gran is ill. She isn't, quite. What follows is a summer on the family croft with John, a sheep farmer and church deacon who has his own idea of what a son should be. Both men are hiding something, and a small island doesn't leave much room to hide.
It's Douglas Stuart's third novel after Shuggie Bain and Young Mungo, and plenty of critics call it his best. Come talk about fathers and sons, faith, and what it costs to go home.
You don't need to have finished the book. Bring your opinions, your favourite passage, or just your curiosity.
Tickets: €10, which you get back in full. On the night, use your ticket as €10 off a book or a drink in the shop. So the evening is free, and the only thing you pay is Eventbrite's small booking fee.
