Nature in Miniature: The Art and Artistry of Bonsai Cultivation

Bonsai is a living art form combining horticulture, aesthetic design, and cultural tradition. Bonsai artists draw inspiration from a wide range of natural landscapes, applying artistic principles of asymmetry, scale, and movement to evoke expressions of age and character into miniaturized trees. Through an examination of both traditional and contemporary bonsai aesthetics, we will explore the cultural foundations of bonsai, tradition of artistic representations of nature, and contemporary perspectives of stylized and naturalistic design that transform trees into evocative expressions of nature in miniature.
Zach Adamz is the founder and lead artist of Komorebi Bonsai in Oxford, Mississippi. A bonsai practitioner for more than fifteen years, he trained at the Korea Bonsai Museum in Seoul and has studied with leading artists around the world. His work celebrates the landscapes and native trees of the American South through innovative bonsai and forest compositions.
