ABOUT THE CONCERT
On Friday, October 9 at 7:00 PM, MUSIC SALON brings together nine WIYAMS Artists for an evening of piano, violin, voice, winds, and chamber music at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Washington, DC. Presented by the Bulgarian Music Society and the International Art Development and Promotion Association, the concert creates an intimate setting in which artists and audiences can encounter a wide range of musical voices and traditions.
Featured pianists Ethan Stahl, Huiping Cai, and Julia Hananel will perform music by Carter Pann, Franz Liszt, and either Maurice Ravel or Robert Schumann. Violinist Chener Yuan presents the opening movement of Gabriel Fauré’s First Violin Sonata, while soprano Yingying Zong brings together Bellini’s celebrated “Casta diva” and Huang Zi’s Chinese art song Three Wishes of a Rose.
Bassoonist Christian Whitacre and flutist Danielle Kim add a distinctive chamber-music color through Villa-Lobos’s Bachianas Brasileiras No. 6. Duo Psuché—violinist Xiang Fang and pianist Heyue Zhang—completes the program with the world premiere of Xinyang Wang’s Suite in Chinese Folk Style, highlighting Chinese cultural memory and dialogue between Eastern and Western musical traditions.
Like the tradition of the salon itself, this evening is shaped by closeness, conversation, and exchange. Across Romantic masterworks, twentieth-century repertoire, opera, Chinese art song, and contemporary chamber music, each artist brings an individual perspective to a shared musical space.
