About this Event
Music on the Brain
From Signal to Sound
Join us at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem on Thursday, November 12, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM for the next installment of Music on the Brain, co-presented with Columbia University’s Zuckerman Institute.
Hosted by Harlem tour guide Amanda Humes, this dynamic evening brings together MRI pioneer Dr. Tommy Vaughan and acclaimed tenor saxophonist Patience Higgins for a live blend of music, neurotechnology, and conversation. Together, they will explore how an MRI scanner functions as a window into the living brain, drawing a parallel between how scientists decode magnetic brain signals and how a jazz composer transforms an idea into music.
Featuring live performances by the Patience Higgins Quartet and an engaging audience Q&A, this event offers a captivating glimpse into how science and music meet.
