About this Event
Join citizen-scientist-artist Katherine Pogson and street tree expert Paul Wood for a multispecies urban nature walk, as part of the Keystone Species art exhibition at Proposition Bethnal Green (27 March - 27 June 2026). Taking place in the lead-up to Earth Day, the walk offers an opportunity to reflect on urban ecology and multispecies relationships ahead of this global moment.
You will encounter surprising stories from the urban arboretum, seek out the niches and refuges where nature thrives in unexpected places, and explore the symbiotic relationships between trees and moth species through seasonal rhythms, migration stories and environmental change. The walk will take in Bethnal Green Nature Reserve, a nearby “community-managed nature haven”, medicine garden and artistic hub.
Put on your multispecies goggles, and experience the diversity of inner city nature from a more-than-human point of view!
Meeting point: Proposition Studios, 279 Cambridge Heath Rd, London E2 0EL (a few minutes from Bethnal Green tube station)
Please arrive by: 10am
The walk will end with a visit to the art exhibition Keystone Species at the studios, where Katherine will give a brief introduction to her works.
Artist Bios
Katherine Pogson began recording encounters with moths on her London roof ten years ago as a volunteer for Butterfly Conservation. Katherine works with found textiles, exploring themes of nourishment and repair from a more=than-human point of view.
Paul Wood is the author of several books about urban trees. His latest, Tree Hunting (Penguin 2025) identifies 1,000 individual publicly accessible trees across towns and cities in the UK and Ireland.
