Join us in Sweet Auburn for an evening of musical exploration featuring the distinctive character and spirit of jazz in Atlanta and the South. Joe and his piano take center stage as we ride alongside the stories, people, and places that helped shape a culture and mark moments in time.
Decades ago, just two doors down at 145 Auburn, Club Poinciana brought energy and swing to the Atlanta Daily World Building, where legends including Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, and Little Richard all performed. Their artistry and aura helped define an American art form, and their ties to this block give the night a rare sense of resonance.
Expect soul, groove, and warmth: tunes so rooted here you can hear where they come from.
For Joe, that bond is personal. Growing up in Atlanta, leaving for New York, and eventually coming back to his hometown gave him a new appreciation for how where you're from becomes part of how you play. You can leave a city, but the city doesn't leave your sound.
