As part of our continuing celebration of World Migratory Bird Day, Naturalist, Carly Davenport will discuss amazing bird migrations.
About this Event

Naturalist, Carly Davenport, will share her love for the natural world with a focus on one of its most awesome spectacles: North American bird migration! this truly amazing mass movement is one of the largest migrations on the planet and we are so lucky to bear witness to it in Southern Ontario each spring and fall.

Discussing species that we have the opportunity to see passing through Markham, Carly will trace their journeys and what we know, and what we still don't know about these amazing creatures and their life history. The talk will inspire people to participate in community science projects, showing how simple observations can collectively lead to better conservation policy and deepen our connection to the ecosystems that we are intrinsically a part of.

You will also find out about the measures that the City of Markham is taking to become more Bird Friendly.

Carly is an avid naturalist whose curiosity about the natural world drives her work a the intersection of science, advocacy, and community engagement. She contributes to diverse research and monitoring efforts and takes on issues such as bird-window collisions, rodenticide impacts, and habitat loss. Recognized nationally for her conservation advocacy Carly is committed to inspiring others to value and protect biodiversity. Carly co-founded Birdsafe U of T, and currently volunteers with Nature Canada's Bird Friendly City program, Ontario Field Ornithologists, Ontario Eastern Bluebird Society, North Durham Nature, Brodie Nature Club and FLAP Canada.
