About this Event
Lore & Lament emerged from the rugged windswept landscapes of Cornwall in 2024. Blending traditional English and Celtic folk with a dark, ethereal edge. Birmingham born duo Holly and Mitch explore the themes present in ancient archetypal stories, spirit of place and how it all connects to the human experience.
Although they first bonded over their shared passion for music at school, it wasn't until a decade later that their vision aligned. Holly had spent many years performing solo, being in bands and crafting soundscapes. Whilst Mitch pursued boxing and other endeavors. When they finally came together to explore their love of traditional folk, it was as though they had finally come home. What began as a purist approach to traditional songs, quickly evolved into somethingpersonal and with the arrival of Fiddle player Emily Hall in 2026 The combination of Mitch's roots in Alternative music and Grunge, Holly's esoteric soundscapes and Emily's deep knowledge and passion for Traditional music of the British isles, then cemented the projects sound into Something that they call, Liminal Alt-Folk.
In March 2026 they released their Debut single 'Aprcity'. Soon to be followed by 'SALT' and Title track of their debut album of the same name, 'SOLASTALGIA'
Join them for a magical evening as they celebrate the completion and release of a collection of original songs and traditional arrangements that touch on themes of grief, identity, hope and folklore.
“They float through Christ Church Downend, ghostlike, like sea mist. Holly Anne Coles is a modern-day Enya, ethereal and magical, with Mitch Cartwright's guitar chopping through the fairytale forests that seem to spring up on Coles’ command.” - Gavin McNamara
