LOCALS ONLY, our recurring screening of short films from Georgia’s independent filmmakers, brings a new flavor of locally-made cinema, with 3 events hitting the screen each year. Each event has a distinct theme and focus. Featured short films come entirely from submissions.
Gothic tales, rotten to the core. This fall, LOCALS ONLY, our recurring screening of short films from Georgia’s independent filmmakers, is showcasing stories about things that go bump in the night. Each event has a distinct theme and focus. Featured short films come entirely from submissions. Does your film tell an unnerving folk tale? Explore creatures hidden deep in the forest? Or decode the past of a restless soul keeping the living awake at all hours of the night? Bring us madness, decay, and dread.
This fall, LOCALS ONLY Presents: LOST IN THE SHADOWS.
This fall, we're looking for films of what was once buried becoming resurrected. Whether it's a southern gothic tale of what lurks in a small town, a nostalgic look at the frights of yesteryear, or a dark romantic tale with a centuries-old beast, we want the gloomy mansions, family curses, found artifacts, and ghost stories with roots. Submitted films must be at least partially filmed in Georgia AND directed by a director who resides in Georgia. Maximum runtime is 20 minutes.
Selected films will screen at the event, scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 22nd, 2026 at the Tara Theatre, and receive Official Selection laurels. Additionally, ALL submitting filmmakers will receive a waiver to submit their LOCALS ONLY entry to the next Atlanta Film Festival.
Submitted films must be primarily filmed in Georgia AND come from a director, writer, and/or producer who resides in the state of Georgia. Maximum runtime is 20 minutes.
Each selected film will receive 5 free tickets to attend the screening as well as two free tickets to the Tara Theatre ($30 value).
A Jury Award and an Audience Award will be given to winners chosen from the program films. Each will come with a $100 cash prize. Winning films will also receive winner laurels, 2 All-Access badges each to the next Atlanta Film Festival ($800+ value) and 2 Tara Theatre ticket/popcorn/drink combos ($54 value).
