About this Event
Drawing upon the RHS Lindley Collections, high fashion and popular culture, uncover the relationship between flowers and fashion.
Over time and across continents, flowers have inspired the way we look, dress, feel and fantasise. Like fashion, flowers are ephemeral: their appeal is multi-sensorial, both are collected avidly, and they can each incite passion and obsession.
Drawing upon rare archival works housed in the RHS Lindley Library, along with examples of high fashion and popular culture, Amy will explore how flowers have variously informed fashion, fancy dress and diverse dressed appearances.
In turn, she will reveal how flowers have assumed human form within artistic expression. These themes will be examined within vital socio-cultural, political and environmental contexts.
RHS membership not required. Tickets include a glass of wine. Additional tickets will be available on the door. There will be plenty of time to ask questions.

In 2021 she co-curated Ravishing: The Rose in Fashion at the Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and authored the accompanying book published by Yale. In 2022, working with Simon Costin, she created the Wild & Cultivated: Fashioning the Rose exhibition and book at London’s Garden Museum.
