About this Event
Cradle released "Brick by Brick: How We Build a World Without Prisons" in November 2021, published by Hajar Press.
Since 2021, global liberation movements have expanded, exploded, shifted, from growing organised resistance to immigration raids and ICE, the expansion of the Palestine liberation movement globally with workers organising at the docks, in healthcare systems, and more people taking direct action than ever before. While many activists are facing punishment and imprisonment for taking action as the state cracks down on resistance, we also experience the acceleration of state and capitalist neglect and violence through the housing crisis, increased living costs, climate catastrophe, and prioritising investment in Pr*son, surveillance and war. We still have a long fight ahead of us, so we want to take a moment to reflect on the abolitionist struggle, recognise the work that's been ongoing and spend time together, with food! We will be displaying art and artefacts from local campaigns against policing and prisons over the last few years.
Now we are launching our new companion workbook: Let's Build Together, designed by graphic designer and illustrator Soofiya. This is another way to think through how to engage practically with abolition in your daily life, and includes resources for bystander intervention and de-escalation, and will be available for purchase at this event, or with your ticket. Other merch including t-shirts designed by Tamara-Jade Kaz and stickers designed by us will also be available!
Exhibition will open around 4pm, dinner and chats start around 6pm, come through anytime 4-10pm. Please register so we have a sense of numbers.
