About this Event
This walk looks at interesting features both ON and BEHIND The Strand – one of London’s most iconic thoroughfares.
Beginning at Embankment station, we will start by looking at some of the gardens created by the building of the Embankment in the 1860s.
We explore the areas of York House and the Adelphi – the creation in the 18th century of the Adam Brothers.
The history of the Savoy Hotel and the Savoy Theatre will be explained and, finally, we explore the newly pedestrianised area of the Strand outside Somerset House.
This at last enables access to two iconic churches designed by leading architects of the 17th and 18th centuries – James Gibbs and Christopher Wren.
Meeting point: ticket barrier at Embankment Station
The proceeds from this walk will be donated to the homeless charity The Connection at St Martin's.
