Get creative and help light up Buxton this winter as part of Through the Shop Window 2026.Delivered by Buxton Sparkles, this community lantern-making workshop invite participants to create a unique lantern inspired by the people, places, businesses and traditions that have shaped Buxton. Drawing on local heritage stories and the theme of Makers Past & Present, you’ll explore Buxton’s rich history while developing your own creative design.
Inspired by traders, craftspeople, performers and community groups, each lantern will become part of a community display.
All materials will be provided, and support will be available throughout the sessions.
The workshops will culminate in a festive Lantern Parade on Saturday 28 November at 5pm, where participants are invited to carry their creations through the town centre, helping to launch this year’s Through the Shop Window heritage trail and celebrate the stories of the people who continue to make Buxton special. The parade will bring colour, light and festive spirit to the town as the Christmas season begins.
Suitable for families, adults and young people. No previous experience required.
All materials provided.
