âAbout Konpa:
Konpa is an Afro-Caribbean music style and social dance that originated in Haiti in 1955. It is commonly danced with family, friends or with a partner, and represents an important part of Haitian cultural heritageâsymbolizing freedom, connection, and self-expression.
Today, konpa is widely danced in Latin and kizomba festivals around the world. The dance has been influenced by styles such as salsa and merengue, and its smooth, flowing rhythm makes it accessible and enjoyable for dancers of all levels.
đ About the classes:
In the beginner classes, we focus on the fundamentals: basic steps, understanding the konpa groove, and exploring different partner positions and simple figures.
In the intermediate classes, we build on these foundations by introducing more advanced variations and techniques, including counterbalance movements such as anvole and nap gade.

Katariina Kynnös (Finland) is a certified konpa instructor, dancer, sport, yoga & meditation professional. Her dance teaching blends musicality, technique, natural movement and creativity.
Katariina has completed three konpa teacher trainings, including with renowned instructors Dady & Manuela in Paris, known for promoting Haitian culture worldwide.
She currently teaches across Finland and internationally and co-organizes events in Finland with Kiskeya Baila contributing to the growth of the authentic konpa & bachata community.
