YALLA MIKU
Yalla Miku is a Geneva-based collective weaving together post-kraut grooves, mutant folklore and electronic trance with musical traditions from the Horn of Africa. At the heart of the band are the krar (a five-or-six stringed bowl-shaped lyre from Ethiopia and Eritrea) of Samuel Ades Tesfagergsh, the bass of Louise Knobil, the percussion of Cyril Bondi, the electronics of Emma Souharce and Cyril Yeterian’s distinctive “UFO banjo,” creating a dense, rhythmic sound that moves freely between post-punk, Afrofunk, dub and krautrock. The Project was founded by Cyril Yeterian— who also runs the influential Geneva label and record store Bongo Joe.
Their new album 2, released on Bongo Joe Records, continues the adventurous spirit of their 2023 debut. With its shifting line-up and collective ethos, the band embodies the restless creativity of Geneva’s underground scene — where traditions, migration stories and experimental sounds collide on the dance floor.
Lineup:
Samuel Ades Tesfagergsh - Krar, Vocals
Louise Knobil - Electric Bass - Vocals
Cyril Bondi - Drums, Vocals
Emma Souharce - Machines, Synths, Vocals
Cyril Yeterian - Ufo Banjo, Electric Guitar, Vocals
Recensioner:
- Lira Musikmagasin”
“ thrilling set of adventurous genre-blurring global music with a vibrant, restless, daring pulse...a frenetic, mesmerizing, transportive journey”
- KEXP
‘Swiss label Bongo Joe has been an unstoppable force of cosmopolitan post-punk gems this year, and perhaps no single-artist release encapsulates their 2025 sound more cleanly than 2…the music fascinates and scintillates”
Pop Matters
“It’s a bold mutant fusion that takes chances at every turn and a wild evolution of a group that was already pushing the envelope”
- 2SER Radio (AUS)
