Fall 2026 Lecture Series at the Gensler Family AAP NYC Center (Tata Innovation Center, Cornell Tech)
About this Event

Klaas De Rycke, from Bollinger+Grohmann, will explore stone as a material for architecture and design, looking back at selected projects realized by B+G and sharing a structural and engineering perspective on its use and future potential.

SPEAKER BIO:

Klaas De Rycke is a Belgian civil engineer and architect. He joined Bollinger+Grohmann in 2003 in Frankfurt before relocating to Paris in 2005 to assist Dominique Perrault Architects on the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. In 2007, he founded Bollinger+Grohmann Paris and today heads the Paris and Brussels offices as a partner of Bollinger+Grohmann Holding AG. He leads design teams on complex international projects, specializing in advanced structural systems, façades and geometrically complex structures using concrete, steel, timber, glass and natural stone.

Alongside his professional practice, Klaas is a Senior Lecturer at ENSA-Versailles and a researcher at the LEAV laboratory, and since 2017, an Associate Professor at the Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL), and since 2025, a Visiting Professor at Université du Luxembourg. His research explores parametric design, digital fabrication, machine learning in structural optimization and low-carbon construction, including bio- and geo-sourced materials. Through teaching, publications and international workshops, he connects academic research with engineering practice.

Gensler Family AAP NYC Center's Fall 2026 lecture series presents innovative designers, thinkers, and civic and cultural leaders who are shaping new approaches to making, building, and creating spaces for people. Curated by Cornall AAP faculty Jesse Le Cavalier (Associate Prof. and Dir. M.S. Advanced Urban Design) and Florian Idenburg (Prof. of the Practice, principal Solid Objectives), our lectures take place in our new permanent home on the 4th floor of the Tata Innovation Center (Cornell Tech campus, Roosevelt Island).

Free and open to the public. Registration required (one registration per attendee; duplicates will be deleted).
