About this Event
Many men reach a point when outward competence is no longer enough.
They may be working, providing, meeting their responsibilities and appearing to function well. Yet inwardly, something feels missing. They may feel disconnected from their vitality, uncertain of their purpose, constrained in their relationships or aware that parts of themselves have never been fully lived.
Beneath this can lie a deeper yearning: to feel more alive, more grounded and more fully present in the world.
This autumn, Sovereign’s Journey facilitator Tom Crofts will offer a four-week introduction to archetypal men’s work in Walthamstow, north-east London.
The four masculine archetypes
Drawing on the archetypal psychology of Carl Gustav Jung and the work of Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette, the course will explore four fundamental dimensions of the mature masculine psyche:
The King — inner authority, responsibility, order and purpose
The Warrior — courage, discipline, boundaries and decisive action
The Lover — feeling, relationship, creativity and connection
The Magician — insight, reflection, knowledge and transformation
These archetypes are not fixed personality types or prescriptions for how a man should behave. They offer a map of different capacities within us: capacities that may be strong, underdeveloped, hidden or distorted.
Over four sessions, participants will begin to recognise how these energies operate in their lives, where they may be blocked and how they can be brought into a more mature relationship with one another.
Who is the course for?
This course is for men who sense that work, achievement and fulfilling their responsibilities are not, by themselves, enough.
It may be especially relevant for men who are moving beyond the heroic phase of early adulthood—the period of proving, striving and adaptation—and are beginning to ask deeper questions:
- Who am I beneath the roles I perform?
- What is asking to be lived through me?
- What kind of man do I want to become?
- How can I bring greater purpose, integrity and presence to my life?
- The course may appeal particularly to men with an interest in psychology, mythology, poetry, personal development and soul work.
No previous experience of Jungian psychology, therapy or men’s work is required.
