King Lear is the story of a great and aging leader who decides to step back from his throne to give his power over to his three daughters. However, his failure to know who they are, and his willingness to have his ego fed, leads to him losing the dignity he felt was his right. Meanwhile, one of his right hand men allows himself to believe everything he hears, leading to a matching collapse in the relationship between him and his sons.
Arguably Shakespeare's greatest tragedy, King Lear, concerns us all with many questions, about how we age and pass the world to the next generation, about how we wield power and influence when we have it, and how do we engage with the world around us when the experience of others is something we do not pretend to understand.
