About this Event
An evening with Black Iraqi artist Tara Moneka, whose music bridges Afro-Sufi, Arabic, and diasporic traditions through jazz, soul, maqam, and Afrobeat. Joined by her all-female Afro-Arab fusion group, she creates a powerful dialogue of memory, resilience, and cultural exchange.
Vol 18: Join Tara Moneka for an intimate live performance exploring traditions, movement, and belonging through a rich tapestry of global sounds.
This is the heart of VOLUME 18 of the INSTITUT experiment. Every week, a different hypothesis. Underground at 620 Spadina Ave — around the back, through the lot to the steel doors, down the stairs, past the mechanical room, through the swinging wood laminate door...
Come early for an open folk session with KRYVA KOSA at 5PM. Tara Moneka takes the stage at 7PM, followed by Juana Go-Go spinning vintage vinyl at 9PM. RSVP (PWYC) so we know who to expect.
