Liverpool has one of the oldest Black communities in Europe, with some families tracing ten generations of heritage in the city. For centuries Black Liverpudlians have lived, worked, created, organised, and campaigned here, shaping the culture and character of the city in countless ways.Join us at the Museum of Liverpool for a guided tour that uncovers the stories of inspirational Black Scousers whose lives and achievements form an important part of Liverpool’s history. From community leaders and activists to artists, athletes, and pioneers, these individuals have made lasting contributions to the city and beyond.
Some of the stories you’ll hear may already be familiar, while others may introduce you to people and moments you’ve never encountered before. Together, they reveal a rich, complex history of resilience, creativity, and pride within Liverpool’s Black community. Through objects, galleries, and powerful storytelling, the tour highlights voices that deserve to be recognised, celebrated, and shared.
Along the way, you’ll explore how global histories of migration, trade, and culture connect with the everyday experiences of people who have called Liverpool home for generations. The tour offers a chance to reflect on the city’s past while celebrating the individuals who helped shape its present.
Tours cost £10 and run at 11am and 2pm.
