Disability culture is taking over!MOMENTUM PRESENTS: INERTIA OPEN MIC, an event led by people with physical and mental health Disabilities, as well as Neurodivergence. In this monthly event, a new MC will join us for each session to showcase the diverse talents of the Disability community.
For this first event on Saturday, October 17 our MC will be Des Moines artist, folk-punk musician, and mental health advocate BanjoKat (Kate Allender)!
WE WELCOME PARTICIPANTS WHO:
- have physical disabilities, mental health conditions, neurodiergence, or chronic illness
- are BIPOC or AIP
- are LGBTQIA+
- are allies
- seriously rock
- any combination of the above
Sign-ups start at 3 PM
Show: 3:30 - 9 PM
WHAT TO EXPECT:
- An accessible stage with a ramp
- Noise cancellation installments on the walls and ceilings to absorb distracting background noise
- A sensory area with art and fidgets for attendees with anxiety or wanting to do something with their hands while enjoying the show
- A patio space for a quick breather during the event
- Lots of room for walking to and from the bathroom
- Drinks available for purchase at the bar, including mocktails and other NA beverages!
This open mic is a safe space where the following behavior is UNNACCEPTABLE:
1. Loudly talking or making disruptive noise to detract from a performance
2. Hate speech, bigotry, sexism, and insults
3. Unwelcome or nonconsensual physical contact
The following behavior, however, ROCKS:
1. Cheering each other on between acts, as loudly as you want
2. Encouraging a performer to keep going if they make an oopsie and forget the words or get tongue-tied
3. Respect and kindness toward each other at all times
