We are thrilled to announce that Indigenous Voices opens to the public next month, the weekend before Indigenous Peoples Day. Join us as we celebrate the grand opening of this park-wide exhibition centering the history, presence, and resurgence of the Ohlone people.Walk along Peralta Creek to see SII, a new sculpture by Walter Hood, a MacArthur Fellow, and Wondrous Weaves, a 100-ft mural bench painted with the traditional textiles Fruitvale families brought from their own cultures. Visit Linda Yamane’s Ohlone Basketry Garden, explore contemporary stories of Ohlone folks, and catch the premiere of “Who Did the Work?,” Rick Tejada Flores’s new short film exploring forced labor during the colonial period, and more!
Curator Holly Alonso will be giving exhibition tours during the event. We will also have hands-on activities all afternoon: weave a corn husk doll, try your hand at lassoing, make a leather pouch, and learn Ohlone songs. Free and family friendly, all ages welcome.
