Form I-9 looks like a formality. It isn't. Every employee you've hired needs one, it has to be completed correctly and on time, and the fines for paperwork errors alone — no bad intent required — run into the thousands of dollars per form. Most small businesses in San Antonio have a filing cabinet full of I-9s nobody has looked at since the day they were signed.
