AI adoption is inconsistent and ineffective across organisations. UX must reconnect with its HCI roots to transform how we work with AI.
About this Event

Speaker

Diarmad McNally

Synopsis

AI is being rapidly adopted across organisations yet much of its use remains inconsistent, improvised, and frustratingly ineffective.

At the same time, many standard UX activities and outputs are delivering less value. For UX to provide value and preserve its relevance, it must reconnect with its roots in Human-Computer Interaction to transform how work is done with AI.

In this session Diarmad McNally covers the current state of UX and AI; then outlines a practical approach to applying HCL principles to AI use across three areas:

  1. Researching where AI use breaks down in real workflows.
  2. Designing more effective interaction models for LLMs within organisations.
  3. Training teams through task analysis rather than trial-and-error prompting techniques.

AI will not deliver value by itself. Outcomes depend on how organisations interact with it.
