About this Event
What does it mean to live with compassion—not only toward other people, but toward the animals who share our homes and communities?
In this interactive humane education workshop, we’ll explore the principles of non-violence, empathy, and compassionate communication and how they can shape the way we interact with both humans and animals. We’ll consider how our everyday choices, language, and responses to conflict can either create connection or contribute to harm.
The workshop will also focus on our relationships with companion animals and introduce positive reinforcement as a humane, effective way to teach and engage with pets. Rather than relying on fear, intimidation, or punishment, positive reinforcement helps us understand animal behavior, encourage desired behaviors, build trust, and create stronger relationships with our pets.
Together, we’ll explore practical ways to:
- Recognize and respond to conflict without resorting to violence or intimidation
- Practice empathy and respect in our interactions with others
- Understand animals as sentient individuals with their own needs, emotions, and perspectives
- Use positive reinforcement to encourage behaviors we want to see in our pets
- Replace punishment-based approaches with communication, patience, and cooperation
- Build relationships with animals based on trust, understanding, and mutual respect
This workshop is an opportunity to reflect on what compassion looks like in practice and to leave with tools that can be applied in everyday interactions—with the people and animals in our lives.
Each participant will receive a SEPTA pass and complimentary snacks! Keep in mind, there will be no gift cards available!
